L’ARTISTE – Éric Hallynck
Éric Hallynck is a graduate of Cégep du Vieux Montréal in Traditional Animation Technique. He worked as an animator for Cinar Animation, where he put his eye for observation and movement in service of visual storytelling.
A caricaturist, illustrator, and painter, he moves easily between technical rigor and creative play — from the precision of observational drawing to the playful exaggeration of caricature.
It’s this dual mastery, balancing precision and freedom, that he now shares through his workshops, inviting each participant to develop their own eye and their own style.

Learning to See: The Art of Observation
The drawing and observation techniques workshop I’m offering is inspired by the Betty Edwards method, which aims to develop the creative potential housed in the brain’s right hemisphere.
Through observational drawing, the goal is to realize that what we see doesn’t always match the stereotyped images stored in our visual memory. It’s about faithfully reproducing on paper what’s in front of us, without trying to analyze or interpret it.
Through freehand sketching (pencil, pen, marker, or charcoal), we’ll learn to release our blocks, to gradually capture shapes without stiffening our line, freeing up our gesture. In doing so, we’ll expand our capacity for observation, learning to draw what we actually see in correct proportion — not what we’d prefer to see from a more comfortable angle.
In short: to faithfully render what we observe closely, to accept that what we see is reality regardless of the viewing angle, opening the door to creativity and originality. It’s also an invitation to live fully in the present moment, to let go of the need to perform, while strengthening our concentration.
The course also covers volume, framing, perspective, and shading, along with a caricature segment where — this time — distorting reality is encouraged, purely for the fun of letting creativity run free.
The Sessions
Simple, playful exercises requiring minimal materials, adapted to each participant’s abilities, aspirations, and learning pace, in an atmosphere of respect and good humor.
By the end of the sessions, each participant will leave better equipped to develop or refine their own style.
No refunds will be granted for classes, except in the case of cancellation on our part.
No make-up session is planned in the event of absence, as most of our classes are full.
